I also grew up as part of a step family and didn't like the sound of it at first. My mum and my dad had 5 children, me being one of them, and we were quite happy just me, mum and my 4 brothers n sisters. I was 21 when it all happened and like you didn't fancy it at all. He had 3 kids from his previous marriage and I didnt want them coming sharing the house, which was only 4 bedrooms. However, i got used to it and loved having an even bigger family.

Like you, I didn't want tony playing 'dad' cos he wasn't, and I guess I didn't make much effort with him. However, before long I got to know him and found he wasn't too bad after all. I didn't want him hurting my mum either but after a short while they got married and they've had another 2 children together! Mad I know!!

Coming from experience at a similar age to you, it may seem like he will spoil things between you and your family, and perhaps you feel he is taking your mum away from you, cos thats how I felt!!! But trust me, give it time and I'm sure everything will be fine. You may get off to a rocky start cos me and my step dad did, but I hope things turn out well in the long run and I'm sure they will.
