okay okay here it is.
they broke my waters at 10am, my contractions were very strong and right on top of each other so they had to slow them down. they unfortunately slowed them down so much that they stopped and where Oliver had already poohed he went into braicardia then they couldn't find his heartbeat. they told me they had to get him out as soon as possible so the consultant was called. she came down around 4pm, I asked for a section as nothing was happening and i could feel that he'd got stuck but she wouldn't listen and forced me to sign consent for an epidural with my eyes shut. I was given the epidural by 5 30. At 9pm i started to feel that i needed to push but i know deep down that he wasnt coming out that way. still the consultant said no. i next opened my eyes at 10pm from a sudden surge of pin relief, they'd upped the epidural to almost maximum. then for the next half hour or so there was a manic rush around me, i was pushing for 40 minutes and nothing. next thing i was being prepared for ventnouse in theatre which they had to open one up especially as Oliver was dying. we got down there, and they put my legs in the stirrups attached the ventnouse a i began pushing again, until my hips gave up and i kicked the stirrups broke them got the surgeon in the nuts (poor guy). Next they said my mum couldn't come in because they needed to do an emergency section as they were loosing him very fast. i felt the knife cutting so the surgeon got kicked again. they put the epidural at maximum but to no effect so they had no option but to give me a general. Oliver was born at 0 09am on Friday 8th March 2002. a very healthy 10lb 3oz. head was 36.5 cm and he was 56cm long.
but i was down in theatre til nearly 2am, they stitched me up, then they nearly lost me too. i will never know quite what happened in those two hours but all i know is that my little man and i are both very lucky to be alive today. |
