Water Birth | | Hi,
I was lucky enough to have a water birth with my little girl, it wasnt planned but I was very lucky. When I went into labour the birthing pool was free at my local hospital. I didnt look into birthing positions or scenearios when I was carrying, as some of you may be aware there is not much you can do when your little one has decided they want to enter this world.
But for anyone that has the oppurtunity I would highly recommend doing it. I was in the birthing pool for just under 2 hours, I managed on gas air but stopped towards the end as I have fear of being sick, crazy I know.
I went into the birthing pool when I was 10 cm dialted, the water was all temperature controlled, the atmosphere was very relaxed. I had my husband and my mum there with me, it was my first baby so didnt know what to expect. It is amazing when your body just takes over and automatically knows when to push.
Emily arrived into this world at a healthy 8lb 6oz. When she arrived she decided that she wanted to swim the birthing pool much to the suprise of her dad, who's main job was to pick her out of the water and place her on my chest. Emily swam over to the midwife under the water, the midwife had to pull her back to the centre by her amibilical cord for my husband to be able to reach. As soon as the baby is stimulated (touched) they will take a gasp of air. Hence why the midwife moved emily by the ambilical cord.
When Emily was placed on to my chest she screamed out loud. It was an amazing experience and would highly recommend it. I am pregnant again with our second and would love to have a similar experience. |
