Default 26 hours later.........

i went into labour the day before my due date, which shocked me as everyone said first babies are always late! Not alex! eventually after 26 hours of labour and no pain relief, not through choice - just the spanish way, i was eventually given an emergency c - section.

When i think back it wasnt too bad, obviously you dont remember how bad the pain was but what i didnt like was that in spain its not the norm for your partner to be with you until you are actually giving birth, so i was alone the whole time and then Paul couldnt come in to see alex born because it was an emergency.

And they tok him away as soon as he was born, they let me kiss him and look at him for a second then i couldnt see him till i left the recovery room and went up to the ward which was about 3 hours later!!

Awww, not the best birth experience but at least you were both safe and well. How did you get past the language barrier? Is your Spanish very good?

My spanish wasnt great but i could get by, lots of the nurses were v helpful and tried to understand my spanglish ranting but some of them were very short with me because i wasnt fluent. Luckily for me the doctor on duty spoke good english, so i knew what was happening.

My spanish is a million times better now as my little boy goes to a totally spanish nursery and is the only english child (well he is spanish really he was born here) so i have to comunicate with his teachers and doctors etc.

Thats probably the one thing im gonna regret about moving back to england that he is missing out on learning a second language. he says as much in spanish if not more than he does in english and understands everything! Amazing really.

That's fantastic! Just try and keep speaking Spanish when you move back or they do great kids spanish classes on saturday mornings and stuff. Keep it going if you can it will give him such a great advantage through school and as an adult!
