Default have you watched tonights panorama?

I havw just watched panorama on bbc1. It was about the stse of midwifery in the uk. It showed various cases & hopsitals, a reporter secretly filmed while posing as a volunteer. It was shocking to see what happens & the tragic outcomes. More than once i went cold & had tears in my eyes. Im so thankful that my experiences have been good & had access to a fantastic unit, there were a few staffing problems due to the high level of women but my care was never compromised.

I applaude all the nhs workers as they have a tough job in even tougher conditions. People are always quick to judge & condem but forget the good treatment they've recieved.

i watched it i just sat there like omg it was terrible whats hapened to some ppl is tragic and its all down to negligance i think they said something about more babys dying in hospitals during or after birth more now i mean i can agree with some of them cos i never had the best care my son could have been 1 of them statistics but thankfully he isnt he ok and im glad but if they need more midwifes so badly why is it so hard to gte into uni to train, i enquired about it and what i needed to get into the course would have took me 3/4 yrs at college which is stupid but after seeing that though i dunno if i would want to be 1 now as they have so much preasure put on them but if i was 1 i would teat woman a hell of a lot better than that because that was disgracefull i understand that some of them wont speak up but some woman need to grow a bk bone to be honest cos i couldnt sit and watch that happening around me and do jack all about it. rant over sorry

I agree there. The pressure & responsibilities are enormous. My sister is a student nurse, she wanted to ba a midwife until she came in with me & stu when i had leah & she realised the extent of the job. She said she didn't feel that she wanted to have such a large responsibilty. When i had leah a student delivered her unsupervised as it was change of shift & the midwife was handing over to the other one. My care from student was fantastic but she shouldn't have had to do it by herself.
Until the government starts to assess the situations nothing will change, which is so sad

I had Melissa at leeds, its a big huge teaching hospital where a lot of people come and train to be midwives, it's supposed to be a good hospital. Anyway after I had Melissa I went to the toilet about 1 am and as I was just going in to the toilet a woman was in a bed in the middle of the hall cos she'd gone in labour and they were ringing through to the delivery suite to tell them she was on her way and she was quite progressed, anyway as I was just coming out I heard the midwife say there was no room in the delivery suite for her and that she was gonna give birth pretty soon! I have no idea where she ended up giving birth but I was petrified, god knows what the woman was going through!! Also when I had Angel they lost my notes, so when I ewnt in the only notes they had were my hand held, and also cos of my history, they wanted to put a cannester thing in my hand just in case I needed a drip after and also said they wanted to take routine bloods as they didn't have my notes, anyway my labour went so quick I was nearly delivering her when they came to finally take the bloods and as it took them so long to get the bloods done, by the time they got the results Angel was already an hr old, and they then found I had antibodies and if the blood results had have come back in time they could have done something with hte cord to check Angel was ok, but as it took so long they then had to take her to special care to take bloods from her, so I did't have her for the first few hrs of her life. It's getting ridiculous how bad it's getting with the nhs.

All 3 of mine spent some time in the special care unit, which made it that I was scared of having more children in case it happened again! Which it did!
