Default partners who can't leave work at work

my other half is an architect so i do appreciate that he does need to bring work home from time to time esp when he's on a tight deadline.
but he does it all the time!

when he hasn't got deadlines he offers to do stuff like set up training manuals & standard detail booklets, its like he doesn't want to spend time with the kids. he leaves for work at 6.30am & gets in at 6pm so he really doesn't see much of them during the week & at the weekends he still brings work home & if i say anything to him about it or suggest doing something as a family then 'i don't understand his job' arghhhh

That sounds exactly like my dad he works in Manchester as a Manager of a Pipeline Company he gets up at 5:00am travels down to Manchester from Hartlepool gets home about 10:30pm on the Monday night and stays down Manchester for the rest of the week comes home on the Friday night at about 10:30pm still bringing work home so really not having the weekend off then does the same again on the following week.
His always worked on the Oil-Rigs when we were younger so we didn't really get to see him. He needs to start putting work to one side and living his life now
