Croydon can be a bit like that - it's always on the news for some fight/stabbing/shooting of some sort, although I found it absolutely fine I must say! You can't get in anywhere now though without being a member and having your fingerprint taken and stuff so if you're known to the police or have been banned before, they don't let you in!
