Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor within the pancreatic gland. Each year about 33,000 individuals in the United States are diagnosed with this condition, and more than 60,000 in Europe. Depending on the extent of the tumor at the time of diagnosis, the prognosis is generally regarded as poor, with few victims still alive five years after diagnosis, and complete remission still extremely rare.

About 95 percent of pancreatic tumors are adenocarcinomas (M8140/3). The remaining 5 percent include other tumors of the exocrine pancreas (e.g., serous cystadenomas), acinar cell cancers, and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (such as insulinomas, M8150/1, M8150/3). These tumors have a completely different diagnostic and therapeutic profile, and generally a more favorable prognosis.


The actor's publicist released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

"Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. Patrick's physician Dr. George Fisher states, 'Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.' Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

i read that on prez hilton website,he said newspapers wrote he only had 5weeks to live,dont know if thats true,its a shame as hes a great actor MMMmmmm

yea i read prez hilton like everyday as well lol, i hope its not true cause it is really sad but the media say alot just to sell papers!

Im devastated for the guy. Ive loved since I was a kid and Dirty Dancing is my all time fav film! I hope he can fight this the best he can. ***************xx

its such a shame for him. i read in the paper that he has been told 6 weeks, but he sez hes gonna beat it. i really hope he can.
