Easy hat using 100g Silkwood super chunky yarn. Complete it in not much more than an hour - ideal for a last-minute hand-made gift!
Crown to brim 21cm: circumference 52cm. Tension 5sts and 8 rows to 5cm, over stocking stitch.
Using 9mm 40cm circular needle, cast on 48sts.
Row 1,3,5: knit
Row 2,4,6: purl
Row 7 and all following rows: knit.
Continue till work measures 14.5cm from beginning.Decrease for crown. (It's worth using a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the row.)
Next row: k4, k2 tog, to end row (40sts)
Next row: k3, k2tog to end of row (32sts)
Next row: k2, k2tog, to end of row (24sts)
Next row: k1, k2tog, to end of row (16sts)
Next row: k2 tog to end of row (8sts). Draw end of yarn through remaining stitches (using big tapestry needle or crochet hook) and pull tight. Weave in ends.
