Pregnancy and Childbirth for Idiots (The Second Trimester)…..cont 4.
So, now most of us (not all!) have finished with the morning sickness and the tiredness and just allowing people to think you were generally moody and irritable… every day…. For 3 months! Well now there’s the slight relief that the risk of early miscarriage is reduced, you may also be able to get out of bed without praying you could just get back in for an hour as you should have a bit of energy back….. but, once again, make the most of it because it all goes again in the third trimester!
This is ‘supposed’ to be the most comfortable trimester (that’s just great, out of 3 trimesters you only get 1 that’s comfortable! That’s being a woman for you!) you should be only just starting to show now, even though none of your clothes fit you and you look visibly pregnant it won’t be obvious to most people they’ll just think you’ve packed on a couple of pounds….. but don’t worry as this month someone will notice that your ‘with child’ and not just ‘with lunch’.
Within this trimester things should start to get interesting (finally!) you may start to feel babies movements, at first it could be mistaken for slight nerves or indigestion but you will soon notice it’s not you! It’s them! (babies, that is!) and then that will be it, you will be feeling then tiny movements until D-Day (and believe me, just because babies are cute, it doesn’t mean they know how to be gentle!) your little one will likely kick you so hard in the later days that you may end days feeling like you’ve been assaulted!
Your Dating Scan should be due about now (if you’ve not already had it!) But you will notice that you will only see baby ‘After’ he/she has stopped making you throw up every day! (maybe so you won’t hold a grudge, I don’t know!?) well you’ll get to see your tiny baby (or bean, as it looks a little bean like at this stage!) and now you’ll think it’s all been worth it, even your not the one that’s been on the short end of your mood swings for 3 months so you can only hope your still very friendly with partners or family and that they feel the same way you do, otherwise come D-Day, your gonna be in so much trouble!!! You will probably get around another 4 antenatal appointments this trimester too, so keep peeing in them bottles as you need these every time! They’ll take all the blood they want off you so that’s one less thing to worry about (Cause we all know how much fun it is trying to pee in a bottle with a tiny neck when all you can see is the top of your emerging bump….. don’t men have it all too easy!!!
At about 18-20 weeks you will probably be offered another scan, and at this one (well in most places) they may tell you the sex of your baby, they will take all sorts of measurements and checks on baby to make sure your all clear of problems like Spina Bifida (which is very rare!)
