This is a reponse to the mum who had a missing child on the bus:

Hello I have to say I was interested in your story because I myself am a school bus driver in the United States and a couple of things caught my attention.
First of all I would STRONGLY advise you not to write your child\\\\\\\'s name on anything that can be seen by the public. That is the number one way that people get childrens names. This can create a larger issue for you other then him getting on the wrong bus.

Second you should have the phone number that will link you directly to the dispatch center for the School Buses. Here in the US all of our buses have two radio\\\\\\\'s and can contact each other and the bus terminal. When we have a child get on a bus that we are not sure if he belongs we will radio the terminal and have someone call the school to make sure they are supposed to be on the bus.

All School bus drivers drive the same routes everyday so we get to know all the kids who ride the bus and where they are supposed to get off the bus. We also have a system set up with the school so that if a child is going to a friends house or baby sitters house they have to present the bus driver with a \\\\\\\"pass\\\\\\\" which will state which bus the child is to ride and where they are going. It has to be to a scheduled stop. Also on the pass it will say if the request came from a parent. Each driver is responsible for maintaining these passes for a length of time just in case there is an issue. We will never allow a child to get onto a different bus without a \\\\\\\"pass\\\\\\\".

The roughest part for a School bus driver is the first two weeks of school because if we dont get a list of new students that will be riding the bus we will children standing where they should not be and they are new to us. When we get to the school we will have all the drivers make a list of the students on their bus and at which stop they got on the bus so at the end of the day we can double check to make sure that the correct students are on the correct buses.

I will tell you that even with all of this we still end up with some students on the wrong buses but to let your mind rest your child is safe and will make it home no matter what. Even it takes a bus driving across town to get them their.

We take our jobs very seriously and other peoples children safety is the number one concern. I hope this has helped you and best of luck.
